Cocoon is an open-source publishing framework from Apache. It is very successful in the pharma world. We know of at least 3 major pharma companies in Switzerland that have a Cocoon implementation running or in development.

Cocoon allows dynamic webpublishing of (dynamic) data from databases (relational or native-XML), not only in HTML format, but also in (important for regulatory purposes) PDF format.

Cocoon heavily relies on XML, which is generated from database data, and on XSL(T) and XSL-format (the latter for generation of PDF documents).
